Sample Prose Post:

McCoy has three patients in his makeshift waiting room, and one trembling little girl on the thin mattress he'd turned into an exam table. She's five years old, she told him, and the black patches on her skin are red and irritated from itching. He checks his supplies in the cupboard. He's running out of suppressants for this plague he barely understands. It seems to be an offshoot of the disease that took the world out from under him. With a lab, with any resources at all, maybe he could find a better solution than this, but right now he can treat symptoms and that's about all.

He turns to the little girl, heartbroken from her red nose and her wet cheeks, but he keeps his expression kind.

"What'd you say your name was, little darl'n?"

She tells him it's Annabelle. He gives her a little smile.

"This is gonna feel a little bit like a mosquito bite, okay Annabelle? I just want you t'keep your eyes on me and it'll be over in a minute."

She nods unhappily at him.

PERSONALITY
- How does your character feel about what he/she is doing with his or her life? Are they satisfied, or do they feel like they are waiting for something better?

McCoy's been a doctor for a long time and it's where he's happiest. Helping people is his calling, and medicine is how he's best equipped to do it. As far as his position aboard the Enterprise goes, space travel was a fear he felt the need to conquer, and with Kirk's help, he was able to do it in spades.

- Describe a situation in which the character begins a new relationship. Did s/he take the initiative? Was s/he reluctant to make a new friend/lover?

McCoy is surprisingly easy to befriend, in spite of how intimidating he comes across. He bonded immediately with Kirk over both of them being outsiders. He tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, so he's very easy to get to know, but it's rare when he shares all of his secrets with someone.

- How does your character view the world? Do they find it pleasant or do they wish there was something else out there?

Mccoy will always present a facade of pessimism, but not too far below the surface, he believes that the world and the people in it are generally good.

- Describe a situation in which your character was given the option of forgiving another. Did s/he? What was the ultimate outcome?

McCoy had to forgive his father for the way he treated him, and found it much easier than forgiving himself for euthanizing him. David McCoy was deeply emotionally abusive, and Leonard always had a tendency to put the blame on himself rather than hate his father.

- Describe a situation in which your character and a figure of authority did not see things eye-to-eye.
Was your character willing to compromise or did s/he stand his or her ground?

McCoy is always very vocal about his positions on any given subject. When he disagrees with Kirk over something, he details the reasons why and makes every effort to make him see his point of view. He's in a unique position of being friends with his commanding officer, but he makes himself heard with Spock just as often, even if he's completely ignored for his efforts.

- Describe a situation in which the character accomplished something very difficult or with the odds stacked against them. What was their initial reaction? Were they prone to bragging or did they humbly and quietly enjoy their success?

McCoy was able to bring Kirk back from the dead, despite the obvious odds. While not devoid of smugness about his success, the relief of having his best friend back trumped any bragging he might have done otherwise.

- Describe a situation in which your character described his or her feelings to another character. Was your character reluctant or more than happy to get things off his/her mind?

When Kirk and McCoy first met, McCoy was very vocal about his feelings about being on the shuttle. He detailed his fears for Kirk, who, at the time, was a perfect stranger. He has absolutely no problem announcing his feelings to anyone who will listen, even if they are mainly focused on his malcontent nine times out of ten.
